The energy created by colour and pattern is at the heart of everything I design.
I am fascinated by the power of colour to uplift and energise — to soothe the senses, bring joy to the wearer, and infuse a home with beauty, serenity or vitality. Colour is, to me, one of life’s greatest pleasures.
Art was always going to be part of my life. After studying History of Art at the Courtauld Institute in London, I spent a happy ten years as an art restorer, specialising in 17th century Dutch and Flemish Old Masters. A day spent mixing and matching colour was a contented one — the jewel-box tones of painters such as Van De Ast and Jan Brueghel the Elder were a constant delight on my palette.
From Switzerland to Chichester, I found the freedom to enjoy colour on my own terms. Immersed in and inspired by nature, I create my prints.
My favoured fabric is silk. The lustre brings an added dimension to any tone — the saturation comparable to oil painting on copper. The sensory experience of silk against the skin makes wearing the clothes, or resting against a cushion, a guilt-free indulgence. All natural fabrics have a beauty and brilliance of their own, and environmentally I prefer them.
“Remember one thing, that you should not leave the earth until you have made it a little more lovelier. A little more loving.”
